This handsome apartment building was originally a home for nurses working at Huron Hospital. We hope to restore the fine exterior while completely rebuilding the interior for comfortable modern living - part of our planned community for active seniors.
We have a vision. We want you to help us flesh this vision out so that it fits your aspirations and needs, those of other folks, and the Windermere neighborhood itself.
It's a vision of men and women who become more alive in their senior years: who take charge of their lives, who care for each other, and who use their talents to enrich their community. Some call it "the flowering of life." Some call it "late-life spirituality."
This new vision has been featured in the AARP Magazine and in newspapers across the country. It was pioneered by seniors in Abingdon, Virginia, and it is now catching the attention of seniors across the United States. The Retirement Research Foundation is funding outreach from the Abingdon group so they can assist the development of ElderSpirit Communities in four new locations. Windermere Renaissance in East Cleveland has applied to be one of these four.
"ElderSpirit Community is a participatory membership organization for older adults that provides opportunities for growth through later life spiritual programs and through the formation of communities and residential centers." For more, please check out their very informative web site at ElderSpirit.net (site opens in new window).
We want to begin a year-long planning process with interested seniors. Church members and those who don't belong to any church, residents of East Cleveland and those who live elsewhere, are all welcome to take part. It's your interest that counts. The community we envision will be integrated. It will include all income groups. It will include those who take up residence in new facilities we construct, beginning in 2006, and also others who share fellowship with them.
To begin this process, Windermere Renaissance will send a delegation to an ElderSpirit Conference in Abingdon, Virginia, on May 20 and 21. Local meetings will commence subsequently. If you are interested, please contact Nakiaa Robinson, Windermere Renaissance community relations coordinator, at 216/443-6573, or by E-mail to cnntr@cuyahogacounty.us.
